Born in Hungary, she fled the country with her parents during the Soviet crackdown in 1956. They lived in Brazil briefly before settling in Chicago, where Mom fell in love with Hank Bennett and had me. She helped found a career-counseling service for women and wrote a book called Sex Signs, which was published after her untimely death in 1979.

This pic's from the Museum of Science and Industry. We lived within spitting distance of it when Dad was at the University of Chicago. I have fond memories of Hyde Park and the museum's wonders.
Dad was born near Boston and grew up in Seattle, scaling huge mountains for fun. His father's academic work took the family to Chicago, where Hank met Judy Racz. For many years he ran an industrial manufacturing firm in Illinois. He now lives in Portland, Oregon, near us and my brother Nick. His dog, Max, likes to play with Sisko.

A native of sweet home Chicago, I now live in Portland, Oregon, with Paul. In my "spare" time I cook, stargaze, garden, collect Wonder Woman figurines, write magazine articles, and go salsa dancing with Paul. I can speak a smattering of French and Danish; my superpower is the ability to spot typos at twenty paces. |

Born in Denver, Mary Beth (aka "MB") attended the Art Institute of Chicago. Bob Guinan was among the spirited students she met there.
On top of being an artist, free thinker, teacher, and longtime labor activist, my mother also designed Icon Language Systems, an innovative software application for teaching languages. These days she teaches and runs the computer lab at Truman College in Chicago. She still lives in Evanston, where Anina and I met.
My drawing style owes a lot to Mary Beth's influence. I'm forever grateful, though, that Bob persuaded her not to name me "Hieronymous Balthazar Guinan."

Robert Guinan hails from Watertown, in upstate New York. After a stint in the air force, during which he was stationed in Libya and Turkey, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. He also met Mary Beth Junge at the ’tute. Years later, Bob would take me to see strange and obscure films there, forever warping my cinematic tastes. Later still, I wound up going to school there--doomed from birth!
Bob's expressive paintings are sold through the Galerie Albert Loeb in Paris, and exhibited throughout Europe. He's been the subject of a French documentary as well as the coffee-table art tome Guinan. He lives in Chicago with sons Sean and Dave.
